Similar Species:

Wild Indigo Duskywing
Dreamy Duskywing (males)

Habitat:
Edges and openings in hardwood forests, powerline clearings, dirt roads and dry places with New Jersey Tea nearby.

Range/Abundance:
Rare in the piedmont and mountains and very rare in the coastal plain.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from early April until late July in two broods with a gap between broods.

Larval Host Plants:
New Jersey Tea Ceanothus americanus

Comments:
Female Mottled Duskywing can be one of the easiest duskywings to identify, yet one of the rarest to find. Males can be confused with Dreamy Duskywing in some locations.
